Deborah and George at Amanyara

borst_005_150.jpgEach of the hotels and resorts on Providnenciales has its own character, and its own preferred locations that we use when we shoot a wedding or a portrait. There’s always a favourite spot wherever we are shooting, but of course some resorts are more photogenic than others! The Amanyara Resort at North-West Point is one of the best, as not only does it have a very different location at the western end of Providenciales, but also has its own unique Asian-style yet modern architecture. On Monday last week, I drove up to Amanyara to shoot a portrait session for Deborah and George…

Actually, on the way to Amanyara I considered calling to cancel and reschedule the session - it was raining so hard! But having driven halfway there it seemed pointless to turn back. The rain eased off - though it was still raining a little as I arrived at George & Deborah’s villa.

We decided to start with some shots in the villa - which worked really well - usually we like to work outside with natural light but it’s good to do something different once in a while, so we used flash and the room lights to illuminate the villa interior (my colleague David Gallardo helped me out with this).

After the interiors I used the natural light coming in from outside to shoot some quick individual portraits - here’s one of my favourites of Deborah. Soft natural light like this from a doorway or window is really cool!

Thankfully, the rain stopped and we were able to go out on to the rocks by the villa for some shots with a spectacular stormy sunset!

We lit the couple with two Canon flashguns, one on the camera and the other held by David off to the left - balancing the light from the sky.

Finally, I took a couple of shots after sunset with the villa as a background, using the very last of the natural light:
