I’m posting from the US where I am staying until next week. I have spoken to Andy and just wanted to update everyone, given the news reports out right now on the web and TV.
All of our staff are fine. The office and our homes are all good to go as well. It is still a bit windy and rainy as the edge of Ike goes through but Provo was spared a direct hit. I have spoken to Andy throughout the day and followed www.stormcarib.com and www.tripadvisor.com in the Turks and Caicos forums for reports as well as spoken to many on and off island re: how Provo did.
The resorts on Grace Bay all have power and most had it during the storm. On Provo the damage is mainly some roof damage (shingles and tiles missing in residential areas), some vegetation blown out and some flooding in low lying areas which is from Hanna as well as Ike. Once they get unpacked and get power on, they will try to get some photos out to show you how we are doing. We are very fortunate.
Our sister islands have not been so lucky. Much of the damage reported in the news is about Grand Turk and South Caicos, where 80% of the homes are reported to be damaged or gone. Phone lines are down right now so we don’t know very much, but as there are people there we know, we are certainly concerned.
As for helping out after the hurricane, the best thing any of our readers can do is to plan a holiday or come on your holiday as planned and support the economy. The resorts are going to be open for business and the water and sand are beautiful as always…Maybe even get some photos taken as well! We’d be happy to help.
Thanks for your patience in getting back to your emails and phone calls. We are hoping power will be up and internet access available later this week.
