The Hutchinson Family

Posted by David Gallardo

Just before we got hit with the bad weather I had the chance to do a really fun photo shoot with a Jamaican family.

Sheryl and Chizel already did some photos with us before, but this time we had two more members of the family. We did part of our photos at the beautiful gardens of Royal West Indies Resort and we ended on the beach under a clear blue sky. Read the rest of this entry »

More post-hurricane Ike photos from Providenciales

Posted by Chris Mann

Here are a few more photos of the beach on Grace Bay, Providenciales, and some more of the resorts, since so many people have been asking to see what the island looks like after hurricanes Ike and Hanna.

As you will see, Grace Bay is looking good, and the resorts are all making good progress in tidying up after the storms. Read the rest of this entry »

Brendan and Anna’s wedding, the day before hurricane Hanna came in.

Posted by Anita Marcus

As you have all heard by now, the Turks and Caicos Islands got hit by two hurricanes in the space of two weeks, with Hanna visiting us twice actually. We all feel very lucky on Providenciales because the effect on this island was minimal compared to some of the other islands. Our best wishes go out to them. Brendan and Anna were also very lucky getting married on Saturday the 31st of August and not on the Sunday after because there would have been no way I could have gotten any sunny photos. Brendan’s family is from the States and Anna’s family is from Russia.

Pictures from Providenciales

Posted by Chris Mann

Well Ike has come and gone as Krys has mentioned - we have been lucky to escape with very little damage here on Providenciales. Our office internet connection is still not working so I am posting this from one of the resorts!

It seems that Grand Turk and the smaller islands to the eastern side of Turks & Caicos that were in the direct path of Hurricane Ike have suffered quite a lot of property damage - but contrary to some of the more sensational reports on some news stations there don’t seem to have been any fatalities anywhere in Turks & Caicos as far as we know at this time. Providenciales, where we are and where the vast majority of the resorts hotels condos and vacation villas are located, had just a little local flooding and some roof tile damage. Power was out in some areas but has now mostly been restored. So to show that we are all OK - here are some pictures of the main locations in the Grace Bay area, taken less than 24 hours after the hurricane passed by… Read the rest of this entry »

Internet is still down

Posted by krys

The office is all back in order, power is restored and everyone is busy editing, designing and working hard.  However, internet is still down in our section of Grace Bay.  If you need to get in contact with someone before it is back up, the phone number for our office is  649-946-4059. (if you are in the US, just dial a 1 before the area code).  Fingers crossed it will be up in the next day or so.

We are also working on some projects to benefit our sister islands….Stay tuned!

Hurricane Ike has left the island

Posted by krys

I’m posting from the US where I am staying until next week.  I have spoken to Andy and just wanted to update everyone, given the news reports out right now on the web and TV.

All of our staff are fine. The office and our homes are all good to go as well.  It is still a bit windy and rainy as the edge of Ike goes through but Provo was spared a direct hit.  I have spoken to Andy throughout the day and followed  www.stormcarib.com and www.tripadvisor.com in the Turks and Caicos forums for reports as well as spoken to many on and off island re: how Provo did.

The resorts on Grace Bay all have power and most had it during the storm.  On Provo the damage is mainly some roof damage (shingles and tiles missing in residential areas), some vegetation blown out and some flooding in low lying areas which is from Hanna as well as Ike.  Once they get unpacked and get power on, they will try to get some photos out to show you how we are doing.   We are very fortunate.

Our sister islands have not been so lucky.  Much of the damage reported in the news is about Grand Turk and South Caicos, where 80% of the homes are reported to be damaged or gone.  Phone lines are down right now so we don’t know very much, but as there are people there we know, we are certainly concerned.

As for helping out after the hurricane, the best thing any of our readers can do is to plan a holiday or come on your holiday as planned and support the economy.  The resorts are going to be open for business and the water and sand are beautiful as always…Maybe even get some photos taken as well!  We’d be happy to help.

Thanks for your patience in getting back to your emails and phone calls.  We are hoping power will be up and internet access available later this week.

Hurricanes Hanna and Ike

Posted by Chris Mann

We suffered some disruption earlier this week when Hurricane Hanna passed through Turks & Caicos (actually she passed through twice, looping around for another run at us!

Despite that we are all doing fine - the power and internet were out in some parts of the island for a while and there were some trees down.

However, we are now waiting for the follow-up act - Hurricane Ike, which looks likely to pass over us or near us on Sunday morning as a dangerous Category 3 hurricane.

Every possible precaution has been taken - our office is closed and the computers and camera equipment evacuated - and more importantly our people and our fellow Turks Islanders and residents are safe at home with the shutters up and emergency supplies laid in.

Turks & Caicos does not get threatened directly by hurricanes and tropical storms very often - but our buildings are strong and solid and resilient - and so are our people.

Most likely we will get some wind and rain, some damage to power poles and a few buildings, and some local flooding, but in a few days all will be back to normal.

So forgive us while we are not able to answer your calls and emails for a little while - we’ll be back to normal very soon, don’t worry!

Timekah and Chris

Posted by Ileana Ravasio

Timekah and Chris Sessoms got married on the beautiful lawn of the Somerset Resort , Providenciales, on August 16th… I’m a little late posting this article but this gorgeous and fun couple deserve a space on our blog page.

Tropical Storm Faye was close by but luckily the weather cleared up to let the celebration begin. After a special ceremony, a cocktail party and a delicious dinner every guest danced the night away - wow, that was a party!
