Our video and stills workshop with StillMotion

We’ve always been fans of the StillMotion team, who have been making waves in both wedding stills and videography in the last couple of years – so when we were looking for somebody to bring to Turks & Caicos to give us a creative workshop they were an easy choice!
Patrick, Konrad and Amina spent a week with us, going over the techniques that they use to make their wedding stills more exciting and their movies more interesting and compelling to watch – plus how they achieve that “big-screen movie” look.From Patrick and Konrad we learned about their approach to cinematography, using 35mm lenses and adapters on the cameras and our new Steadicam rig, plus different ways of composing and framing a shot, and leading in to creating sequences of shots and editing them together with live audio and music to build the final piece. Meanwhile Amina gace us some invaluable tips on composition, posing, lighting with off-camera flash, and her approach to editing images and bringing them together in a finished wedding album design.
The only thing that we didn’t have was good weather – it was very breezy and overcast a lot of the time, which meant we didn’t have as much of the usual bright and colourful natural light to work with as we normally do. But then again it is early February!
We’re all really looking forward to putting all these ideas into practice on forthcoming weddings and portrait sessions.
