Tanya and Paul at Nikki Beach – the movie

A few weeks ago Kellie posted some of the great photos that she and Anita shot at the wedding of Tanya and Paul Gordon at Nikki Beach – now it’s the movie department’s turn!
We’re following on behind because it’s always a slower process editing a movie than it is working with stills – not because it’s harder necessarily but just because it’s a much more time-consuming process reviewing the clips, deciding which ones to use, cutting them to fit with music, grading the color, and so on. Anyway, here we have the finished result…
Preston and I shot video on the wedding day (Saturday) and at the pool party the day after, but not at the rehearsal, so I included some of the stills from the Friday event, set to music, so as to represent the complete weekend.
Tanya and Paul are very into house music, so I decided to make the movie quite uptempo and lively, except for the ceremony section of course, and I included several of their requested tracks. On the DVD there will be a full edit of the whole ceremony – this is the “highlights” version. Usually we make a six to eight minute piece – this one is about thirteen minutes as there was so much going on over the three days!
Anyway, here it is:

For those who like to know the technical details, we shot this piece with three cameras – two Canon XH-A1s and a Sony HVR-A1U, all of which are high-definition. One of the Canons was fitted with a Cinevate Brevis 35mm lens adapter so that we could get a nicer, shallow depth of field look by using Canon 35mm stills lenses. You’ll see that mainly during the ceremony section. It’s quite a big rig so it’s mainly used on a tripod. The other Canon was mounted on a RedRock Micro shoulder mount for a combination of mobility and stability. The baby Sony was used hand-held.
It was a very different wedding to shoot – with the customized ceremony that Paul and Tanya devised, and the music theme that ran through it all, plus lots of dancing and partying as you can see! It was a little windier than usual that weekend as you can probably tell from the soundtrack, but that didn’t stop anyone from having a good time!
Congratulations to Paul and Tanya and we hope you enjoy the movie!
