The NeSmith family at the Somerset

On Friday I met with the NeSmith family at The Somerset for a “Beach Escape” family portrait session. The Beach Escape is a little different from our regular portrait sessions as we have more time (up to two hours typically) and we hop in the van and go to a different location around the island as well as taking pictures at the resort.
The NeSmiths have been coming to Turks & Caicos for ten years so they know the island very well and knew exactly what they wanted to do – which made it easy for me!
They specifically wanted to get some photos with the deep blue ocean as a background, so we scheduled their shoot for first thing in the morning instead of the hour before sunset as we normally do.Morning sessions give quite a different look to the pictures as you will see – it’s a lot brighter (and hotter) but the colours of the ocean and sky are much more intense.
We began with some shots in the gardens and by the pool at The Somerset, and then jumped in the van and headed east to Pelican Beach at Leeward – more secluded than the main stretch of Grace Bay, and where there are some rocky outcrops as well.
It was a warm, bright day, but a cooling breeze took the edge off the heat. And just as we were finishing the session a brief passing rain-shower soaked us all to the skin! But it was a fun session – see what you think of the photos!
Here’s a slideshow of my selections and a few “highlights” as well…
