Looking ahead – becoming “Brilliant” and our new studio

Usually on our blog we’re posting about things that have happened – weddings, portrait sessions, commercial jobs, and events that we have covered, like the recent Caribbean Golf Tournament for example.

But we don’t often talk about the future – what’s going to happen…. so I’d like to update you with some exciting stuff that’s coming up for us – and which we hope you’ll be a part of too!

First of all, there’s our new brand name – “Brilliant”. What we’re doing is bringing together all our “people-related” photo and movie services under this new name – something a bit easier to remember and write than “Tropical Imaging”, and which we hope will represent how people feel after we’ve photographed or filmed them!

There are so many “Tropical Somethings” – especially here in the islands – that we decided a new name would be helpful. So very soon we’ll be launching the “Brilliant” brand with a new website and new and exciting ideas for photo and video, and that’s where you’ll find us posting weddings, portraits, family photo-shoots, and so on.

Tropical Imaging will continue as the official name of the company, and be used for our commercial and business-related work – there’s no change of ownership or personnel – it’s just about creating a brand that better represents what we do.

Once the new website – www.brilliant.tc – is up and running, we’ll tell you more about it!

And the second “new thing” is our purpose-built studio and office building, which is under construction right now less than a mile from our present location, on Leeward Highway.

If you’ve visited our present office in Neptune Plaza you’ll know that we are a bit short of space – especially now that there are eight of us! We looked around for an alternate space to rent, but there wasn’t anything suitable at a sensible price, so Andy decided that the time was right to have a purpose-built studio and office building, giving us room not only for our current needs but also space for future expansion.

Not only that, but the building will be the very first commercial building in Turks & Caicos that’s been designed with eco-friendly principles in mind – the Turks & Caicos’s slogan is “Beautiful by Nature” and we want to do our bit to keep it that way. Not only that, but by using appropriate building methods, installing energy-saving lighting, air-conditioning and so on, the building will use significantly less energy than where we are now – despite being much bigger.

Turks & Caicos is a perfect place for the use of “green” technologies such as wind and solar power – while we haven’t yet been able to get approval to install things like wind turbines to further reduce our energy consumption, we are hopeful that the government will introduce eco-aware policies to make that possible in the future.

The ground was cleared in early July for construction to begin, and already the building is up to first floor level! The builders expect to complete the building by December – most likely we’ll be moving in January, though exact timings aren’t clear yet.
