A 9-11 love story – Aaron & Candi at Villa Renaissance

September 11th is a date that of course will always be remembered for the tragedy of the attacks on New York and Washington in 2001 – but thankfully there are also happier reasons to remember that date.

For Aaron and Candi from Virginia, 9/11 had special significance before 2001 – it was the day of their first date ten years ago, and also the day they got married in 2004!

This year, they came to stay at Villa Renaissance on Grace Bay, Provo to celebrate their fifth anniversary – and Aaron organized a surprise vows renewal for Candi – and a photo session with Tropical Imaging!Pastor Colbey and I waited on the beach for Aaron to bring Candi down from the hotel – the expression on her face when she saw us was priceless!

And as an added twist to the story, Aaron and Candi are both professional photographers – so Candi recognized me from the Digital Wedding Forum, a worldwide online association of professional wedding and portrait photographers which I help to run.

So for all those reasons it was especially nice to be able to help them celebrate their special day here in Turks & Caicos!

A perfect evening on Grace Bay beach set the scene.

As always, Pastor Colbey made the ceremony an enjoyable occasion.

After the renewal ceremony, we walked back through the breezeway to take some photos in the hotel gardens and courtyard, as it was still quite hot and bright on the beach.

Back on the beach, I used the sea-oats as a background

I think this was the only photo I took where Candi & Aaron weren’t smiling – they were having too much fun just being around each other! – but I wanted to get just one with a moodier look…

For this picture I used an orange gel on my flash to light the couple, then adjusted the colour balance later to counteract the orange tint and turn the sky and ocean a rich blue.

This picture was taken in the breezeway using just the illumination from the wall-lights.

Congratulations to Candi and Aaron – thanks for letting me put you on the other side of the camera for once – and we hope you’ll be able to come and visit us here in Providenciales again soon!
